We’ve all been there. Technological developments are progressing quickly and many programs on TV tell you to go to a website to see the exclusive after-party or interesting after-dinner.
This is something that many of the TV viewers do not, and certainly, there are those who do not because they are not interested, but there are also those who do not because they simply do not understand how to go about it.
Below, we have listed different streaming services and what they contain. It is important to note that streaming is not the same as downloading.
Youtube
Actually, Youtube is not a streaming service, it is a video platform where you can upload things yourself. However, having it on the list for Youtube is a paradise of content for all possible quarters and edges. You can easily find most things on Youtube if you dig deep enough. People upload videos of their cute puppies and kittens, their covers on songs, parodies on movies and comics, etc.
The page is simple in design and the first thing you can see in the middle of the screen at the top is the search function that most people use almost all the time. Youtube may want you to create a Google account (if you want to upload things yourself you will need it) but it is absolutely not necessary to watch videos. However, it does provide opportunities for eg. “Like” videos, comment on them, and place them in a list.
SUBSCRIPTION SERVICES
Netflix
Netflix is probably one of the most well-known and popular streaming services. They have a wide selection of films, documentaries and TV series without commercial breaks which are very much appreciated and they even have their own productions that do not appear on TV channels. Netflix has no binding period and you can cancel it at any time. You can even try Netflix for free for 30 days before deciding if it’s for you.
Netflix’s page is basically just pictures you can click to see the synopsis of the movie or series. If you scroll the mouse down you will find different genres and for example new content. If you become a customer you will be able to choose which genres you are interested in and Netflix will show you recommendations based on your choices. For example, if you like thrillers and documentaries then the site will show you this mainly, but of course, you can find other things as well and there is a search function at the top right corner.
When you have clicked on a movie, the movie will take up the entire page. On TV series you can choose to watch an episode other than the first and in children’s films. If you want to return to the selection, click on the arrow in the upper left corner.
The site, like Netflix, consists of image icons that represent TV shows and movies. If you have chosen a TV series, you can choose between watching Season 1 or later if the offer allows it by clicking tabs just below the title of the series. The streaming services look very similar in design and that is to make them as easy to use as possible. What varies from page to page are mostly the colors of the layout (the look of the website) and the settings.
