Top 10 Best Horror Movies

Last Updated on October 6, 2021 by

The horror genre has always kept me warm and has probably made me the movie nerd I am today. Here is a list of the horror movies we think all fans of the genre must see! The movies are listed in no particular order.

1. Shutter

Shutter is a Thai horror movie that really frightened me when I first saw it. The film uses the Asian horror film conventions so effectively that it is difficult to find room to breathe.

2. Cabin in the Woods

The newest movie on the list but also one of the strangest with a lot of dark humor. To the surface, at first it looks like a stereotypical and uninspired horror but soon shows that it has more to offer

3. Evil Dead

The classic that really started the video violence debate when it started. With a minimal budget, buckets of blood, and a lot of charm, this is a movie that no horror movie fan should miss.

4. The Shining

It is not possible to create a list of the best horror movies without mentioning The Shining by master director Stanley Kubrick. There is not much to say about the film that has not already been said, but it is just one such film where everything folds perfectly, from acting to photography.

5. The Thing

It does not become more isolated than a research base in the Arctic and therefore it is an absolutely brilliant place for a horror movie.

6. A Tale of Two Sisters

A Tale of Two Sisters may be one of the most beautiful films made, at least within the horror genre and it is also a really thought-provoking film that perplexes during the first tit but then only gets better and better. Scary, moody, and complex.

7. Night of the Living Dead

The classics of the classics, of course, a zombie movie must place on the list and what better fits than Night of the Living Dead from 1968. Romero’s zombie classics are so incredibly monumental and important to the genre that it has to get a place on the list. It is not just on the old merits that the film takes a place on the list as it keeps its mark even today.

8. The Ring (1998)

SPOILER! Don’t watch the video if you haven’t seen the movie

More Asian! The movie that made us all afraid of Japanese ghosts with hair over their eyes. This Japanese horror classic redefined the genre and the movie world became a horror icon richer.

9. The fly

One of David Cronenberg’s best films, Flugan, asks a lot of interesting questions and we get to watch Jeff Goldblum’s amazing transformation from human to monster. The special effects are really disgusting and hold a completely different class than today’s CGI-dominated effects.

10. Alien

In space, no one can hear you scream. I adore Alien and I think it is a well-deserved winner. Constant excitement, H.R. Giger’s amazing Alien design, and Sigourney Weaver’s unforgettable efforts as Ripley make this film not only the best horror movie but one of the best movies of all time.
