Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark is a movie that was recorded in 2010 and released to the public in 2011. It is a remake of the 1973 ABC made-for-television horror film of the same name.

What is Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark movie about?

The movie is about a family that moves into a 19th-century Rhode Island mansion, where the withdrawn daughter Sally begins to witness malevolent creatures that emerge from a sealed ash pit in the basement of the house. Sally goes to the mansion in Rhode Island to live with her father Alex and his girlfriend Kim, who are both restoring Blackwood Manor. The purpose of the restoration is to put it on the market for their client Mr. Jacoby. Sally is depressed since her mother forcefully put her in Alex’s care and giving her Adderall.

Initially, Sally hears noises from the basement and is drawn to explore the basement to figure out where a melodious tune came from, as it awakened her during the first night at the mansion. Sally wanders the grounds and finds the hidden basement’s skylight. Mr.Harris, one of the workmen who is restoring the house warns her about not walking into the basement. As she does, she hears creatures calling her name and follows the mysterious voices to a sealed fireplace. “BE AFRAID” is written in runes above it. Her curiosity leads to her opening the fireplace and finding one of the old housekeeper’s teeth. It turns out that the creatures live in the firepit are hostile.

As the creatures become more aggressive, Harris tries to seal the fireplace, but the creatures emerge and wound him, leading to his hospitalization.

It is found out in the movie that Lord Blackwood, who previously lived in the house, summoned his housekeeper to the basement where he reluctantly bludgeoned her to death with a hammer and chisel. He removed her teeth and his own to offer them to the creatures in order to get them to give back his kidnapped son. But the creatures reject his offer and demand only the teeth of children. He is then dragged the ash pit by the creatures.

The creatures in the movie are like tooth fairies, which try to turn a human into one of their own. When things get worse, Alex and Kim try to flee the house but as they try to escape, they are ambushed by the creatures and knocked out. As Sally wakes up, she has her feet tied up with rope, and the creatures start dragging her to the basement in order to transform her into one of them.

As Kim also awakens, she goes to the basement and cuts the rope around Sally’s feet, but she is then caught in the ropes herself and breaks her leg when she tries to set herself free. The creatures then successfully drag Kim into the fireplace instead.
