Discover the most outstanding DreamWorks movies of recent years. You and your family will love to see them again and again! Cartoons give life advice about different topics in life, and they are appreciated both by adults and children.

Despite having to compete against powerful and enormously large competitors such as Disney and Pixar, the DreamWorks studio has created several successful children’s films. Here we list the best films from DreamWorks.

Many of Dreamwork’s animated films have become real classics. In addition, DreamWorks was the first animation studio to win an Oscar for the best-animated film.

Can you guess which movie won the Academy Award? Below you will find the answer and much more about your kids’ favorite movies that you may not know were from DreamWorks.

DreamWorks: Shrek

Shrek is one of the biggest classics of Dreamworks. The film takes a step away from many traditional stereotypes in the film industry and successfully mocks them, which makes the film series popular with both children and adults.

When the film was released, it had no equivalent, it was a whole new thinking. The story takes place in a fairy tale world, which at first seems to be a typical tale of magical beings and princesses. But in Shrek, nothing is like it seems.  And it’s the green swamp troll who must save the princess from a horrible prince.

Other factors that have played an important role in the success of the Shrek films are that the dialogues are incredibly entertaining, they humanize their many different characters with everyday problems and they cleverly weave together several different saga classics that we all recognize – and present them as we have never seen them before.

In fact, it was the original Shrek movie that won an Oscar in 2002 for the best-animated film. Dreamworks later released three more films starring the world’s favorite thrashing role.

How to Train Your Dragon

All children love dragons, both in books and movies. Maybe that’s why Dreamworks released its animated movie Dragon Trainer in 2010. And it quickly became one of the most popular children’s films from DreamWorks Animation.

The story is about a young boy who does not meet the expectations of his father and the community he lives in. Like most children’s films, the Dragon Trainer offers an important message. And in this case, the message is more relevant today than ever before: it’s okay to be yourself, you don’t have to be like everyone else.

How to train your dragon is recommended for children from the age of 6, but even older children and adults enjoy the adventurous story and can appreciate the film’s message.

Once again, DreamWorks took advantage of the film’s success and released a follow-up (2) in 2014 and another (3) in 2019.

The story has actually been so popular that DreamWorks has also created Dragons, a cartoon series for children of preschool age and up.

Chicken Run

One year before Shrek, DreamWorks released another great movie,  Chicken Run. Although the film’s debut was almost 20 years ago, it is still popular today. The escape from the chicken farm is actually the biggest stop-motion animated blockbuster hit of all time.

The film takes place at a hen farm where the chickens plan to escape after realizing what the future means to them. The film is meant as entertainment for the whole family but also reveals the tragic conditions in which many animals are forced to live.

Kung Fu Panda

Children love watching movies starring animals, and that is one of the reasons why Kung Fu Panda is such a hit. Kung Fu Panda is a comedy for children and adults with a cast of animals, including panda Po.

When Po is chosen as a kung fu champion, he comes into contact with the world’s five best kung fu fighters, and of course, they are all animals: a tiger, a crane, a monkey, a viper, and a cricket.

But the film’s animals aren’t the only thing that makes the story fascinating. The film differs from other children’s films with its graphic design and bold colors. And again, Dreamworks made the latter a whole series of films; the first sequel was released in 2011 and next in 2016.

If your kids haven’t seen these movies yet, it’s time to plan a movie night for the whole family. Your children will surely love these and all other children’s movies from DreamWorks Animation. So what are you waiting for?
